Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Stage
Carry out pre-feasibility and feasibility studies of the green hydrogen projects under development:
- Conduct site visits to the potential location of the process plants.
- Be the point of contact with hydrogen electrolyzers suppliers and technology licensors (ammonia synthesis loops, methanol process plants and air separation units), to obtain non-binding proposals and be up to date with the latest technical improvements and market conditions of these systems.
- Coordinate with the in-house technical team who conducts the energy yield assessment of the renewable energy plants, to optimize the process plant technical solution (i.e., PEM or Alkaline hydrogen electrolyzers, storage buffers of intermediate products, etc.).
- Maintain and improve the in-house Excel models that estimates:
- The efficiency and operational profiles of the process plant systems (hydrogen electrolyzers, compressors, ammonia/methanol synthesis loops, etc.), based on the hourly profile of the renewable power available.
- The production of the different products (hydrogen, ammonia, based on the hourly profile of the renewable power available.
- The CAPEX & OPEX class III estimates of the process plant systems.
- Draft Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Studies reports, in a concise, accurate and clear manner.
- Prepare power point presentation summarizing the Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Studies reports, addressed to a non-technical audience.
Pre-FEED and FEED Stage
Manage the Pre-FEED and FEED studies to be conducted by third-party engineering firms:
-
Conduct the competitive tender processes:
-
Draft RFPs with a detailed scope of works and timelines.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (legal, finance, business development, etc.) to ensure alignment between technical, financial, and strategic objectives.
-
Manage the communications with the third-party engineering firms.
-
Conduct a fair and competitive technical and commercial evaluation to propose a short-list to management.
-
Third-Party Engineering Firm Management:
-
Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the third-party engineering firm.
-
Define clear communication channels and protocols to ensure efficient exchange of information and progress updates.
-
Monitor the firm’s performance, adherence to timelines, and compliance with technical standards.
-
Technical Expertise:
-
Possess a deep understanding of green hydrogen production technologies, engineering principles, and industry best practices.
-
Provide technical guidance and expertise to the engineering firm during the study phases.
-
Review technical documentation/engineering designs to ensure they align with project specifications.
-
Identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities during scope development and communicate them effectively to the team.
-
Budget and Cost Management:
-
Collaborate with the finance department to establish and manage budgets for the pre-FEED and FEED studies.
-
Monitor costs, track expenses, and ensure that the engineering firm adheres to the agreed-upon budget.
-
Quality Control and Assurance:
-
Implement quality control processes to ensure that the engineering firm delivers accurate and comprehensive technical documentation.
-
Review engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards.
-
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
-
Identify potential risks that could impact project timelines, costs, or outcomes.
-
Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address identified risks.
-
Progress Reporting:
-
Regularly update senior management and key stakeholders on the progress of the pre-FEED and FEED studies.
-
Prepare and present detailed progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommended actions.
-
Problem Solving:
-
Address technical and logistical challenges that arise during the study phases.
-
Engage with the engineering firm to collaboratively find solutions and maintain project momentum.
-
Identify opportunities to optimize processes, enhance efficiency, and incorporate lessons learned into future project phases.
