Over 100 leading players in renewable energy, gathered under the IRENA Coalition for Action, have come together in a joint call for action, putting forward concrete recommendations on how governments can ensure a rapid and sustained economic recovery that aligns with climate and sustainability objectives.

Construction starts on 50 MW PV plant in Togo
The government of Togo announced that construction has started on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed solar power plant in the Blitta region, in the central part of the country. The 50 MW solar park is expected to generate nearly 90,255 GWh per year and to require an investment of approximately 20 billion FCFA (around €30 million), part of which is being provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for the Development.

Mali: AMEA Power to build a 50 MW solar power plant
AMEA Power has been awarded the contract for the construction and operation (for 25 years) of a 50 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Mali. The plant will supply the populations of the Koulikoro region with electricity. The first results are expected within a year.

Togo: AMEA Togo Solar secures deal to build a 50MW solar plant in Blitta
AMEA Togo Solar will build a 50MW solar plant in Blitta (271km north of Lomé). The related concession agreement was signed on November 26, 2019, by the firm and the government. Their respective representatives were Hussain Jasim Alnowais and Dèdèriwè Ably Bidamon, Minister of Energy.

UAE’s AMEA Power Achieves Financial Close On 50MW Al Husainiyah Solar Park In Jordan
AMEA Power has reached financial close and will begin the construction of the $74mn Al Husainiyah Power Plant, a 50MW greenfield solar park in Ma’an Governorate (~200 km south of Amman) in Jordan. The commercial operation date is scheduled for Q4 2020 and will supply 42,000 households with affordable clean energy and avoid at least 100,000 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions.

UAE-based AMEA Power explores Sierra Leone’s investment opportunities
The United Arab Emirates-based AMEA Power, an energy producing giant, is exploring investment opportunities in Sierra Leone, a top official disclosed on Tuesday. Hussain J. AI Nowais, Chairman of the company whose interest is focused in Africa, Middle-East and Asia, is currently heading a delegation on a visit to Sierra Leone. According to a release from the presidency, Mr AI Nowais met with President Julius Maada Bio at State House on Tuesday where he officially expressed his interest in investing in the country.
